Sweat Lodge Instructions
for
T.K. Wolf Sweats
Fast or eat lightly during the day of the sweat unless you have medical conditions that would restrict fasting.
What to bring:
What to wear:
-
Men wear bathing suits during the sweat and need to have a towel for use during sweat. Men and women need additional towel and dry clothes to change to after the sweat.
-
Women wear loose fitting shorts or slacks with loose fitting top (cotton is best) and need a towel for use during the sweat.
-
Note: Women cannot participate in a sweat during their menstrual periods. The reason for this
is not that women are considered unclean as in some religious traditions but that women are seen as exceedingly powerful during this time.
Time: Arrive around 6PM for socializing and
fellowship. Go in at 7PM. (If you’re running late come on.)
Medical instructions—If you have heart disease, hypertension,
diabetes or other medical condition that would be of concern, please
talk to your physician. We know diabetics may find it helpful to bring
candy or juice for immediate problems of hypoglycemia but these must be
followed immediately by a high protein food. If you cannot stay in the
sweat, you are welcome to leave at any time and later may re-enter if
you are able. Those who are blocked from going into the sweat for
medical reasons are still welcome to attend, sit outside, meditate and
enjoy the spiritual atmosphere.
The Ceremony—The leaders of the sweat lodge will give specific
instructions during ceremony. It is important to show respect throughout
the ceremony—to the Creator and to all in attendance. Because tobacco
is a sacred medicine given to us by the Creator, it is for ceremonial
use only. We ask that you not use it socially or addictively at T. K. Wolf ceremonies. The purpose of the ceremony is sacred and not to be used for such purposes as looking for relationships, employment, bargaining or begging for special favors from the Creator, etc. And, as Clark says, this is not for a “feel good experience, if you want to feel good, go to a movie!” The ceremony is for the purpose of your growth and strengthening so that you can serve the Creator and others in a better way, and this means being honest and willing to change how we live and act (e.g., changing our addictions such as food, smoking, alcohol, relationships, and all those things that destroy us and others.) Thank you.
We encourage people of all beliefs and races to attend and participate, however, we remind you that this is for your benefit, it does not prepare you to conduct ceremonies for others.)

Medicine Wheel
Ceremony
What to bring:
- Potluck style food to share at meal after ceremony—meats, vegetables, fruits and healthy beverages--low carbohydrate, high protein, lots of water
(please avoid soda pop, sugar in any form)
What to wear:
People of many traditions use shawls, blankets and sashes for prayer.
Women are encouraged to wear shawls for the ceremony. These may be traditional, non-traditional or blankets.
Men may bring their prayer shawls or sashes to wear as well.
Note: In order to allow women who are on their moon to participate, we will have a special and separate ceremony for them. Women who are menstruating will not be in ceremony with others. The reason for this is not that women are considered unclean as in some religious traditions but that women are seen as exceedingly powerful during this time. For traditional reasons, women who are on their moon are asked not to bring food!
Time: Arrive around 6:30PM for socializing and fellowship. Go in the teepee around 7 PM for Medicine Wheel instruction. Those who have participated in the medicine wheel before
may come 30 minutes later.
The Ceremony—The leader of the Medicine Wheel Ceremony will give specific instructions prior to the ceremony.
It is important to show respect throughout the ceremony—to the Creator and to all in attendance.
